Chinese New Year, one of the grandest and most characteristic traditional festivals in Chinese folklore.
The Chinese Spring Festival has a long history, originating from the primitive beliefs and nature worship of early mankind, and evolved from the ancient times when people prayed for the first year of the year, which was a primitive religious rite, in which people would hold rituals at the beginning of the year, praying for a bounty of grains and prosperity of people and animals in the coming year. Over time, these rituals evolved into a variety of celebrations, culminating in today's Spring Festival.
During the Spring Festival, the Han Chinese and many ethnic minorities in China hold various activities to celebrate. These activities, which focus on ancestor worship and respect for the elderly, thanksgiving and prayers for blessings, family reunions, getting rid of the old and bringing in the new, welcoming joys and blessings, and praying for a good year, have a strong ethnic character and have always been the most solemn and important festivals in China.
